runners host St. James Invitational
ST. JAMES – Owensville and Cuba won the
boys’ and girls’ varsity team titles
respectively on Thursday, Sept. 27 at the St.
James Cross Country Invitational, held at the
St. James Golf Course.
The event included 14 schools.
Owensville won the boys’ varsity race with
60 points followed by Cuba with 68, Sullivan 90
and Dixon 110. Cuba won the girls’ varsity
race with 44 points while Owensville was second
with 52, Union and Sullivan tied for third with
127 and Salem was fifth with 168. In the boys’
junior varsity race Owensville was first with 61
followed by Hermann with 84, Cuba 86 and
Sullivan 121. In the boys’ junior high race
(1.6 miles) Washington won with 66 points while
St. Clair had 71. In the girls’ junior high
race Cuba won with 35 points.
Owensville’s David Koppelmann was the meet
medalist in the boys’ varsity meet with a time
of 18:16. For St. James in the varsity race
junior Clark Martensen won his first varsity
medal by placing 18th at 20:20 while
Brandon Ragland was 23rd at 20:43.
In the girls’ varsity race Cuba’s Paige
Kruse was the winner. For St. James senior
Jessica Morris was 26th overall at
27:28.
Belle’s Will Moore was the boys’ junior
varsity medalist with 19:36. For St. James Derek
Perona placed fifth overall at 21:29 while Pat
Leubbert was sixth at 21:30.
In the boys’ junior high race St. James
eighth-grader Caleb Martensen was fifth overall
at 10:08 while St. James seventh-graders Wes
Vanbibber was 37th, Andrew Huggins 41st
and Levi Auxier 47th.
St. James is to run again Tuesday, Oct. 2 at
the Cuba Invitational, starting at 4 p.m.
