RHS
baseball knocks off small-school power
ROLLA – The Rolla High School baseball team faced a
state-ranked opponent on Friday, April 4.
And the Bulldog pitching shut ‘em down.
Chris Bowe, a junior right-hander, led a parade of
three Rolla High School baseball team pitchers against
Class 1 power Stoutland Friday at First Community National
Bank Field. And the RHS trio combined for a four-hitter,
leading the Bulldogs to a 5-1 victory over the Stoutland
Tigers in non-league play.
In handing Stoutland, ranked No. 2 in the current
Missouri Class 1 state poll and the state tournament
runner-up the past two years, its first defeat of the
season Rolla slowed down an offensive attack which has
been the area’s best so far in the young season. In a
two-game span last week Stoutland erupted for a whopping
48 runs.
However, Bowe, lefty Dalton Friend and right-hander
Daniel Perdue slowed the Stoutland offense way down.
Stoutland got just one run, in the top of the fifth
inning. Bowe (2-0) worked three innings and allowed one
hit and one walk while fanning three. Friend pitched three
innings and allowed two hits, one walk and struck out
five. Perdue finished up the seventh allowing a hit and
walk.
Rolla, now 6-2, bolted to a 5-0 lead after four
innings. The Bulldogs fired out to a 4-0 lead in the
bottom of the first, as Stoutland all-state pitcher Josh
White walked the bases loaded followed by a two-run single
by Ross Parker. Andy Hall followed with a run-scoring
squeeze bunt and Bowe then had an RBI single.
RHS added a run in the fourth, as Perdue was hit by a
pitch, advanced to third base on an error and later scored
on another error.
White was the losing pitcher, getting relief help from
Scotty Breeden in the first inning and later Cory Kyle in
the fourth. Breeden and Kyle limited RHS to three hits,
one walk and one run over the final 5 2/3 innings.
Stoutland pitchers stuck out 11 RHS batters.
Rolla easily won the junior varsity game 17-0, as Zach
Barnes and Nate Fraley combined for a no-hitter and 10
strikeouts. Barnes had two hits and three RBI at the
plate.

Rolla 15, Borgia 5
On Saturday, March 29 Rolla advanced to the
championship game of the weather-delayed Four Rivers
Classic by belting St. Francis Borgia 15-5 at First
Community National Bank Field.
It is still uncertain when the Classic’s championship
game will be played.
On Saturday Borgia erupted for five runs in the top of
the first inning. However, RHS eventually had plenty of
offense for the comeback, plating three runs in the bottom
of the first inning, four in the second, one in the third,
