RHS
golfers have chance for special season
ROLLA – How good can the Rolla High School
boys’ golf team be this spring?
Real good, according to RHS golf coach Zach
Nixon.
"I think we have a chance to have a
great season," Nixon said. "Even
though it’s an individual sport, you’ve got
to come together as a team and put four good
scores together. The talent is there.
"We have a chance to win a lot of
tournaments. Potentially I think we can compte
with anybody."
Rolla is scheduled to open the season on
Monday, March 19 against Pacific at Oak Meadow
Country Club.
The Bulldogs return four varsity lettermen
back from last season’s squad.
they are seniors Joe Steelman, Tanner
Dinsdale and Chris Kiersz and sophomore Chris
Martin.
Joining those four in battling for varsity
positions this spring are junior Brock Jones and
sophomore Brandon Weaver.
In all the Bulldogs have 15 players on the
roster this spring.
The battle for the top sports on the squad
have been tight. Martin has already had a
three-under-par round in practice while Steelman
has a one-under-par practice round.
"Chris was struggling a little but them
really came on," Nixon said. "It
looked like Joe would be No. 1, then Tanner came
on. It’s hard to say. There is no clear-cut
No. 1. It’s just who’s playing well at the
time. Tanner, Joe and Chris are kind of vying
for the top position."
The top players from last spring lost to
graduation are Jared Jordan and Dallas Mesa.
Here is the Bulldog golfers’ 2007 schedule:
