Rolla’s Duncan advances to state cross country meet

COLUMBIA – Junior Matt Duncan was the lone state meet qualifier for the Rolla High School cross country team from the Missouri Class 4 Sectional 3 Meet held at Bethel Park on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Duncan returns to the Missouri Class 4 State Meet by placing 10th overall in Saturday’s sectional race, which included a field of more than 70 runners. He also advanced as a sophomore last fall.

The Missouri Class 4 Championships will be held at Hough Park in Jefferson City. The Class 4 boys’ race is to begin at 11:30 a.m.

Duncan had a time of 16:04 during Saturday’s sectional race to qualify.

As a team the RHS boys placed seventh out of eight schools. Columbia Hickman won the boys’ team title with 58 points followed by Springfield Kickapoo with 66, Francis Howell North 79, Lebanon 88, Jefferson City 102, Francis Howell 120, Rolla 168 and Camdenton 203.

In the girls’ team standing Jefferson City won with 40 points followed by Kickapoo with 90, Fort Zumwalt South and Neosho each with 100, Columbia Rock Bridge 108, Lebanon 111, Francis Howell Central 151 and Springfield Central 225.

The top four finishers in both the boys and girls divisions advance to the state meet as full teams.

Also for the RHS boys Michael Bradford was 41st overall at 17:19 while Ryan Peterson was 46th at 17:27, Justin Bassett 59th at 17:58, Michael Wilbanks 63rd at 18:12, Jason Newell 73rd at 19:00 and Monty Abdelsalam 74th at 19:33.

Two RHS girl runners advanced to sectionals as individuals, but neither made it to the state meet. For the Lady Bulldogs Aimee Warnke was 31st overall at 20:40 while Aly Parfet was 68th at 22:35.

In non-qualification races for Rolla:

In the boys’ race Jacob Sells had a time of 19:15 and Jacob Tupper 25:56. In the girls’ race Anne Fraley ran 21:52, Mattie Fraley 22:16, Anna West 22:35 and Melissa Cambre 23:23.

RHS boy runners advance to sectionals as team

CAMDENTON – The Rolla High School boys’ cross country team advanced to the Missouri Class 4 Sectionals as a full squad by placing third overall in the Camdenton District Meet, held Saturday, Oct. 20.

Springfield Kickapoo won the boys’ district team title while Lebanon was second at 48, Rolla third at 97 and Camdenton fourth at 103. Only the top four teams advance to the Class 4 Sectionals, to be held Saturday, Oct. 27 in Columbia.

Other boy teams were Ozark fifth at 131, Springfield Parkview sixth at 137, Joplin seventh at 176, Neosho eighth at 217 and Springfield Central ninth at 251.

Rolla failed to qualify as a team in the girls’ race.

Neosho won the girls race with 41 points followed by Kickapoo second with 54, Lebanon third with 66, Central fourth with 112, Rolla fifth with 148, Waynesville sixth with 161, Glendale seventh with 181, Parkview eighth with 182, Camdenton ninth with 223 and Joplin 10th with 255.

However, two members of the Rolla girls’ team advanced to sectionals as individuals. They are Aimee Warnke, who was ninth overall in the district race, and Aly Parfet, who finished 28th.

Junior Matt Duncan was fifth overall for the RHS boys with a time of 16:32 in warm, windy conditions while Ryan Peterson was 17th at 17:55, Michael Bradford 27th at 18:32, Michael Wilbanks 29th at 18:37, Justin Bassett 31st at 18:39, Monty Abdelsalam 44th at 19:38 and Jason Newell 49th at 20:00.

For the Lady Bulldogs Warnke had a time of 20:53 while Parfet was at 22:08. Also for the RHS girls Anna West was 36th at 22:56, Mattie Fraley 41st at 23:20, Melissa Cambre 42nd at 23:22, Anne Fraley 46th at 23:44 and Becky Smith 67th at 26:11.

Duncan, Peterson, Bradford, Wilbanks, Warnke and Parfet all won all-district medals.

In an alternate runners race for the RHS boys, Jacob Sells was 19th at 20:52, Trevor Constance 28th at 21:47, Wesley Crutcher 29th at 21:48, Drew Goser 31st at 21:59, Bryce Brown 46th at 23:21 and Jacob Tupper 64th at 30:24. In the girls’ alternate race, Rolla’s Tiffany Emory was 22nd at 28:54.

RHS runners fourth in league meet

SPRINGFIELD – The Rolla High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both placed fourth in the Ozark Conference Meet, held Saturday, Oct. 6 at the hilly, rugged Lake Springfield course.

In the boys’ meet West Plains won with 47 points while Springfield Kickapoo was second at 48, Lebanon third at 79, Rolla fourth at 92, Camdenton fifth at 121, Springfield Parkview sixth at 128, Joplin seventh at 207 and Waynesville eighth at 232. Springfield Hillcrest and Springfield Glendale didn’t have enough for a team score.

In the girls’ meet West Plains won with 33 points followed by Kickapoo with 41, Lebanon 83, Rolla 110, Parkview 144, Glendale 145, Waynesville 162 and Joplin 199. Camdenton and Hillcrest didn’t have enough for a team score.

In the boys’ junior varsity meet Camdenton won with 28 points followed by West Plains with 58, Joplin 82, Rolla 88 and Kickapoo 97.

The Bulldogs’ Matt Duncan placed fifth overall in the 3.1-mile boys’ varsity race with a time of 17:22. Also for the RHS boys Justin Bassett was 19th at 18:39, Ryan Peterson 21st at 18:47, Michael Bradford 22nd at 18:49, Michael Wilbanks 28th at 19:25, Monty Abdelsalam 36th at 20:17 and Jacob Sells 45th at 21:58.

In the girls’ race Rolla’s Aimee Warnke was eighth overall at 22:03 while Anne Fraley was 19th at 23:35, Aly Parfet 24th at 23:51, Melissa Cambre 31st at 24:54, Mattie Fraley 34th at 25:10, Anna West 43rd at 26:58 and Becky Smith 47th at 27:30.

In the boys’ jayvee race for Rolla Justin Clinton was 15th overall at 22:17 while Ryan Marshall was 18th at 22:54, Dillon Gillis 20th at 23:10, Drew Goser 25th at 24:02, Stefan Maerz 27th at 24:09, Austin Johnson 29th at 24:34, Bryce Brown 31st at 24:44, Corey Fels 39th at 27:49 and Jacob Tupper 41st at 34:40.

In the boys’ freshman 1.55-mile race Trevor Constance was 14th for Rolla t 9:50 while Wesley Crutcher was 20th at 10:31 and Daniel Almikinder 22nd at 10:35.

Duncan was on the boys’ all-conference first-team while Warnke was on the girls’ all-league second-team.

"Our training has been geared to faster running and stronger mid-races, and our runners showed that Saturday," said RHS coach Don Knapp. "The runners were prepared, both physically and mentally, for Saturday. It was really fun to see them run and race that well. It is a really high level of competition. There are all-state runners, state-ranked teams...just a powerhouse of athletic talent in the meet. To go there and run this well is exciting."

RHS runners get look at district course

CAMDENTON – Competing on the course that will host the district race in late October, the Rolla High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams finished third and fifth respectively in the varsity team standings during the Camdenton Invitational, held Saturday, Sept. 29.

Rolla competed in the Gold (large school) Division.

In the boys’ varsity meet Lebanon won the Gold Division with 42 points followed by Jefferson City Helias with 53, Rolla 66, Camdenton 82, Raymore-Peculiar 90, Neosho 158 and Republic 198.

In the girls’ varsity race Raymore-Peculiar won the Gold Division with 39 points followed by Neosho with 43, Lebanon 59, Helias 108, Rolla 114 and Camdenton 164.

In the boys’ junior varsity race (one division only) Lebanon won with 30 points followed by Camdenton with 50, Raymore-Peculiar 63, Helias 85, Osage 158, Rolla 167, Waynesville 174 and Hermitage 232.

Matt Duncan had another stellar finish for the Bulldog runners, placing second overall with a time of 16:33. also for RHS in the boys’ varsity race Ryan Peterson was 11th overall at 17:34, Michael Bradford 13th at 17:42, Justin Bassett 17th at 17:59, Michael Wilbanks 25th at 18:33, Monty Abdelsalam 37th at 19:21 and Ryan Marshall 43rd at 22:00.

In the girls’ varsity meet the Lady Bulldogs’ Aimee Warnke was 15th overall at 21:21 while Anne Fraley was 22nd at 22:08, Melissa Cambre 28th at 22:38, Aly Parfet 29th at 23:04, Mattie Fraley 34th at 23:30, Anna West 38th at 23:52 and Becky Smith 43rd at 25:17.

In the boys’ jayvee race Jacob Sells was 25th for RHS at 20:13 while Justin Clinton was 39th at 21:34, Dillon Gillis 43rd at 21:58, Wesley Crutcher 44th at 22:02, Trevor Constance 45th at 22:03, Bryce Brown 53rd at 22:41, Nathan Ely 66th at 23:31, Daniel Almekinder 68th at 23:39, Corey Fels 75th at 24:43 and Jacob Tupper 84th at 27:33.

Rolla’s Tiffany Emory was 31st in the girls’ jayvee race at 29:38.

Rolla runners capture Dixon Invitational

DIXON – The Rolla High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams were victorious in capturing the championship of the Dixon Invitational, held Monday, Sept. 24 at Oak Hills Country Club.

In the boys’ varsity race Rolla won with 34 points followed by Camdenton with 42 points, Fatima with 101, Laquey 136, Cuba 137, Licking 153, Vienna 197, Plato 232 and Southern Boone 268. Waynesville and Dixon had incomplete teams.

RHS also took the girls’ varsity title with 52 points while Cuba was second with 65, Waynesville 93, Camdenton 99, Southern Boone 143 and Licking 183. Incomplete girls’ varsity teams included Fatima, Laquey, Vienna, Plato and Dixon.

In the boys’ junior varsity meet Fatima won with 47 points followed by Rolla with 59, Waynesville 87, Laquey 144, Cuba 183 and Vienna 207.

Rolla junior Matt Duncan won the boys’ varsity race in a time of 18:44 while Ryan Peterson was third overall for the Bulldogs at 19:19, Michael Bradford sixth at 19:30, Justin Bassett eighth at 19:46, Jason Newell 16th at 20:41, Michael Wilbanks 19th at 21:00 and Ryan Marshall 34th at 22:12.

Rolla’s Aimee Warnke was second overall in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 23:43 while Anne Fraley was fifth overall at 24:48, Melissa Cambre ninth at 25:16, Mattie Fraley 16th at 26:31, Aly Parfet 20th at 26:46 and Becky Smith 28th at 27:53.

In the boys’ jayvee race Monty Abdelsalam was third for Rolla at 22:17 while Justin Clinton was 10th at 23:43, Wesley Crutcher 13th at 24:09, Bryce Brown 16th at 24:16, Austin Johnson 17th at 24:29, Dillon Gillis 18th at 24:32, Trevor Constance 23rd at 24:59, Adam Newell 24th at 25:02, Corey Fels 33rd at 25:20, Nathan Ely 47th at 25:48, Daniel Almekinder 50th at 27:29 and Jacob Tupper 62nd at 34:20.

In the boys’ eighth-grade 1.7-mile race Dunn Westhoff was 10th for Rolla at 11:07, Caleb Huffman 24th at 12:06 and Zach Stephenson 34th at 12:47. In the eighth-grade girls’ race Jeni Steele was eighth for Rolla at 13:07 while Gina Monaldi was 11th at 13:41 and Kristin Frish 23rd at 14:52.

Host RHS runners win Rolla Invitational

ROLLA – The host Rolla High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams easily took first place in the annual Rolla Invitational, held in summer-like heat Thursday, Sept. 20 at Lions Club Park.

There were four full teams in the boys’ varsity race. Rolla won with 21 points followed by Washington with 78, Columbia Hickman 81 and Licking 85.

In the girls’ varsity race there were only two full teams; Rolla won with 48 points while Licking had 102.

Rolla won the junior varsity boys’ race with 36 points followed by Washington with 44 and Waynesville 80. There were no full teams for the jayvee girls, freshman or junior high races.

Individually swept the top three places in the boys’ varsity race. Matt Duncan easily won the 3.1-mile event in 16:41 followed by teammates Ryan Peterson at 17:07 and Justin Bassett at 17:18. Also for the Rolla boys’ varsity Michael Bradford was sixth overall at 17:59, Jason Newell ninth at 18:24, Michael Wilbanks 12th at 18:48 and Jacob Sells 23rd at 20:18.

In the girls’ varsity race Rolla’s Aimee Warnke was second overall at 20:49 while Anne Faley was fourth overall at 21:35, Melissa Cambre ninth at 22:35, Mattie Fraley 16th at 24:27, Anna West 17th at 24:29, Aly Parfet 18th at 24:32 and Becky Smith 19th at 24:36.

In the boys’ jayvee race Rolla’s Ryan Marshall was first overall at 19:21 while Monty Abdelsalam was second at 19:28, Justin Clinton eighth at 20:45, Drew Goser 12th at 21:10, Dillon Gillis 13th at 21:24, Stefan Maerz 15th at 21:50, Bryce Brown 20th at 22:15, Austin Johnson 21st at 22:26, Nathan Ely 24th at 23:42, Corey Fels 26th at 24:24 and Jacob Tupper 31st at 27:43.

In the 1.55-mile freshman boys’ race Rolla’s Wesley Crtucher was first in 9:44 while Trevor Constance was fourth at 10:04, Adam Newell fifth at 10:09 and Daniel Alkekinder seventh at 10:37.

Rolla’s Tiffany Emory won the girls’ 1.55-mile freshman run at 13:38.

In the 1.55-mile junior high division, Rolla eighth-graders Dunn Westhoff was fourth at 9:43, Caleb Huffman sixth at 9:55 and Zach Stephenson eighth at 10:49 in the boys’ race and Jeni Steele second at 11:24, Gina Monaldi third at 11:39 and Kristin Frish seventh at 13:55 in the girls’ race.

RHS runners sweep Sullivan Invitational varsity races

SULLIVAN – The Rolla High School cross country team opened its season on Tuesday, Sept. 4 by winning both the boys’ and girls’ varsity divisions of the Sullivan Invitational.

In the boys’ meet Rolla had 22 points to win followed by Sullivan with 63, Pacific with 77 and Steelville with 107. In the girls’ varsity meet Rolla won with 40 points followed by Pacific second with 63, Union 73 and Sullivan 78.

In the boys’ junior varsity meet St. James won with 30 points followed by Rolla with 42, Hermann 105 and Sullivan 131.

The Bulldogs swept the top four places in the boys’ meet. Matt Duncan won the boys’ varsity medalist honors with a time of 17:38. Also for the RHS boys, Ryan Peterson was second overall at 18:08, Justin Bassett third at 18:16, Michael Bradford fourth at 18:30, Jason Newell 12th at 19:59, Michael Wilbanks 19th at 20:52 and Monty Abdeksalam 21st at 21:45.

Rolla’s Aimee Warnke was the girls’ varsity winner with a time of 21:28 while Anne Fraley was third overall at 22:39, Melissa Cambre ninth at 24:51, Anna West 13th at 25:13, Aly Parfet 14th at 25:19, Becky Smith 16th at 25:20 and Tiffany Emory 30th at 34:02.

In the boys’ jayvee race Rolla’s Ryan Marshall was first with a time of 20:47 while Jacob Sells was seventh overall at 22:18, Kevin Phelps ninth at 22:31, Drew Goser 12th at 22:54, Justin Clinton 13th at 22:56, Bryce Brown 16th at 23:02, Wesley Crutcher 18th at 23:13, Dillon Gillis 20th at 23:31, Adam Newell 25th at 24:25, Austin Johnson 26th at 25:23, Nathan Ely 28th at 25:39, Corey Fels 30th at 26:52, Daniel Almekinder 32nd at 27:13 and Jacob Tupper 38th at 35:28.

In a girls’ junior high race (1.5 miles) Rolla’s Kristin Frish was the overall winner at 14:33 while Jeni Steele was third at 15:12. In the boys’ junior high race Rolla’s Dunn Westhoff was 11th overall at 13:08 while Caleb Huffman was 13th at 13:29 and Zach Stephenson 17th at 13:51.
